L’enquête sociologique en Haïti: entre terrain familier et engagement politique

Résumé

Cet article propose une réflexion sur la pratique de l'enquête sociologique de terrain à partir d'une recherche menée dans un quartier populaire d'Haïti sur la politicité de ses habitants. Il questionne la possibilité d'articuler objectivité scientifique et engagement militant dans un contexte de familiarité avec le terrain. S'inscrivant dans la lignée de la science réflexive, l'auteur montre que la neutralité et la distanciation ne sont pas des conditions nécessaires à la production d'un savoir sociologique, car toute connaissance est située, partielle et partiale. Il défend l'idée d'une transition épistémologique plutôt que d'une rupture, où les effets de la situation d'enquête sont intégrés dans l'analyse. L'empathie est posée comme un fondement méthodologique permettant de saisir l'expérience vécue des enquêtés. L'article conclut que recherche sociologique et engagement militant peuvent se nourrir mutuellement à condition d'assumer une démarche critique et réflexive.

Abstract

This article offers a reflection on the practice of sociological field research based on a study conducted in a working-class neighborhood in Haiti about the politicity of its inhabitants. It questions the possibility of articulating scientific objectivity and activist engagement in a context of familiarity with the field. In line with reflexive science, the author shows that neutrality and distancing are not necessary conditions for the production of sociological knowledge, as all knowledge is situated, partial and biased. He defends the idea of an epistemological transition rather than a rupture, where the effects of the research situation are integrated into the analysis. Empathy is posited as a methodological foundation for grasping the lived experience of respondents. The article concludes that sociological research and activist engagement can mutually nourish each other, provided a critical and reflexive approach is taken.
